Clinical Indications
Sensation of something caught in the throat (plum-pit qi), chest oppression, possibly coughing and vomiting.
Symptoms & Signs
Esophageal spasms, hysteria, chronic laryngitis, and tracheitis.
Precautions
The warm, acrid medicinals in the formula can injure yin and exacerbate heat. This formula is therefore contraindicated for patients presenting with a flushed face a bitter taste in the mouth, and a red tongue with scanty coating.
Pulse Quality
Wiry, slow or wiry, slippery pulse.
Tongue Appearance
Slimy, white tongue coat.
