Therapeutic Functions

Supplements the center and boosts the qi, upbears yang, uplifts the fallen.*

Clinical Indications

Pulmonary tuberculosis, dysentery, persistent malaria, pernicious anemia, leukopenia, hemorrhagic disorders, cerebral arteriosclerosis, chronic bronchitis, chronic nephritis, hernia, prostatitis, gastroptosis, peritonitis, chronic hepatitis, prolapsed rectum, hypoglycemia, myasthenia gravis, corneal ulcers, impotence, leukorrhea, prolapsed uterus, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, habitual miscarriage, postpartumproblems including urinary incontinence, lochioschesis and insufficient lactation.

Symptoms & Signs

Debility in the aftermath of a severe illness, Ashen white or faded yellow facial color, intermittent fever, bodily fatigue and chilled extremities, sensitivity of back to cold and wind, spontaneous sweating, thirst with desire for warm drink, vertigo, headache, disinclination to speak, panting on minor movement, shortness of breath, prolapse, abdominal distension, flatulence, poor digestion, loose or erratic stools, incontinence, abnormal vaginal discharge, irregular menstruation and menorrhagia.

Precautions

Contraindicated for fever due to yin vacuity. Use only for prolapse due to central qi falling. Not recommended for individuals with ascendency of yang.

Pulse Quality

A flooding, vacuous or large, vacuous pulse.

Tongue Appearance

A pale tongue with a fine, white coating, slightly enlarged.
