TCM Pattern
Vacuity cold of the penetrating (chong) and conception (ren) vessels. Blood stagnation in the lower abdomen. Menstrual cycle irregularities — early, late, constant bleeding or spotting through the cycle or no flow. Painful menstruation. Abdominal fullness and pain.
Therapeutic Functions
Warms the channels, dispels cold, nourishes the blood and transforms stasis.
Clinical Indications
Endometriosis, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, irregular menstruation, infertility, vaginitis, perimenopausal syndrome, impotence, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and testicular pain.
Symptoms & Signs
Irregular menstruation, painful menstruation, scant or absent menstruation, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, pale face, fatigue, headache.
Precautions
Contraindicated for stasis due to repletion. Contraindicated for abnormal bleeding due to heat. Do not use during pregnancy.
Pulse Quality
Fine, vacuous, and possibly wiry.
Tongue Appearance
Pale and possibly slightly purple tongue body.
