Clinical Indications
Upper respiratory tract infections, viral or bacterial infections, sinusitis, mumps, scrophula, strep throat, headaches with a cold or influenza.
Symptoms & Signs
Wind heat with slight sore throat, swollen glands, fever, sinus discharge influenza, fever with chills, headache, sore throat, red eyes stiffness of the upper back and neck, nasal discharge, general aching, and swollen lymph glands. This clinical picturemay be classified as shaoyang and yangming when the etiology is a cold pathogen that is transforming into heat. If the pattern is due to wind heat, the formula may be used for both wei stage and qi stage. This formula is often used to prevent colds and influenzas when an exposure has taken place. It can be useful when Yin Qiao fails to work. It is useful as a preventive agent when traveling on airlines or other places where there may be shared air supplies.
Precautions
This formula contains several cold and cool herbs. Prolonged use can damage the digestive system resulting in stomach upset and loose stool. Do not give this formula to a cold or shivering patient.

Rapid, wiry, flooding.

Pink to red body, tongue coat is yellow.
